Avoid these common mistakes when making your watermelon cocktail
- Using bottled lime juice, wilted herbs, or pre-cut fruit can dull the flavor. Fresh-squeezed citrus and freshly chopped ingredients make a big difference in taste and aroma.
- Mocktails without enough ice can feel flat or too warm. Crushed or pebble ice adds texture and keeps the drink crisp and chilled. Bonus: it also makes the presentation more appealing.
- Mint and other herbs should be gently muddled or briefly blended. Overdoing it can release bitter compounds and make the drink taste grassy.
- Great mocktails have layers of flavor: sweet, tart, fresh, sometimes a little fizzy or spicy. Too much of one thing (like just fruit juice) can make the drink one-dimensional.
